Why We Like Elemental Ergonomics @ WordPress.com !

Elemental Ergonomics is a WordPress blog that regularly posts new information about the latest ways to stay ergonomic in the workplace. One of their recent posts, “Top 5 Ergonomics Tips for the Home Office,” was personally convicting! Their 5 steps were; Avoid using your laptop as a laptop, Invest in an office chair, Get proper keyboard and mouse height, Check your lighting, and Move more. I think often-times we see things and assume that the way they were designed is the only way we can use them, but as time goes on, we tend to find issues with the way we use products. Their paragraph on remembering to keep monitors and laptops at a higher level was a helpful reminder for me, as I can more often than not strain my neck looking down at a screen. The blog also highlighted common mistakes with lighting and how we can cause unnecessary eye strain by placing a monitor in-front of a window.

Their paragraph on office chairs was insightful and they gave advice other than just buying an expensive Hermon Miller chair. They suggested practical and cheap alternatives like adding pillows or towels to help with lumbar support. They also talked about the proper keyboard and mouse height and at what angles your arms should sit. For us the most convicting concept was when they talked about moving more. They suggested moving locations every 15 minutes standing up and stretching every 20 minutes and they even went into detail about how it increases your blood flow. Their blog seemed surprisingly unbiased and selfless with an abundance of first-hand knowledge and I would recommend looking at some of their new posts in the future!
